BLACK MOON FLARE

rebooting on third new moon of the season

Friends, today is a Black Moon—the third new moon between the equinox and the solstice. I have been crafting a short essay on identity, home and being a denizen, but it isn’t done. I hope to have it ready by next month, and it will recorded as a mini podcast for my paid subscribers.

I have recently moved to Kirkwall in Orkney and only have basic stuff unpacked—enough to cook food and get dressed. Today I was able to unpack what I need to get my handmade jewellery business up and running again. Income from my online shop, Feral Strumpet, is actually how I keep the cats fed and a roof over our heads. (Someday perhaps my writing will do this!)

I’m in the middle of a pain flare—it was inevitable and I knew it was coming. My older cat, the wise-witchy-one named Cherry, has been really sick. She stopped eating when we arrived at the new house. She turned a corner today and is eating again, but I think I’ve been holding it together for her and for myself. And now I’m forced to rest. I’m so grateful to be here with my clean laundry waving on the line in the glorious Orkney wind-sun.

This Black Moon energy feels like a forced reboot. What’s it been like for you?

The UK editon of my book, Ashes & Stones is now available in hardback, ebook and audiobook.
