Sometimes “Scottish Witch” crops up in my Google alerts and my stomach drops. I often delete them without looking, but recently a spate of headlines appeared, crowing about the Scottish National Party* abandoning plans to pardon accused witches. The Spectator opens their article with glee. “Ding, dong the Bill is dead.” A legal rag sums up opposition to the bill by quoting trolls on X: “What about justice for all those turned into newts?” (etc., paraphrasing.)
